My name is Courtney, and I’m 22 years old. I live in Central Florida, but am planning to head north towards the end of the year. I completely blame my father for my love of photography. He would wake me out of bed at night and hustle me into the driveway. In the drive, was his telescope perched up on the tripod with his old Canon meticulously attached to the underside. We would sit out and take pictures of the moon and its craters; always in Black & White. We’d have the film processed and develop the prints by hand so I could show them off to my mother that week. I always looked forward to those weekends twice a month with my father; he and my step-mother have always been supportive my habit. My father even later gave me his Canon A2 E, and I dragged that thing everywhere for a good 5 years. Considering I was only 13, he was a brave man. Now I shoot with a Canon Rebel XTi, and drag this thing everywhere! Read more.
I’ve had the fortune travel to Italy and Japan, both places helped me grow as both a photographer and as a human. My family is originally from Maine, and I absolutely love getting to visit almost every summer. Most of my family is elderly and I’ve felt compelled to document my heritage though photography. They’ve always been very patient with my constant shuttering around when we visit.
I approach photography as a series of moments captured. Some things people might miss I usually try to photograph. I also love to photograph details in places that most people might overlook. From blueberries sitting in series in Maine to fortunes tied on a string in Japan. I love finding different textures in details and looking at things from a different perspective. I only use my Canon Rebel XTi, and shoot with my 70-300 mm f/4-5.6 telephoto and my 18-135 mm lenses. All of my editing is also done in Aperture. If you’d like to see any more of my work, my site is vermettephotography.net.
